Design Leaves is displayed at the 11th International Architecture Exhibition Out There: Architecture Beyond Building in Venice, at the Arsenale, in the Italian Pavilion, in the area dedicated to Id-Lab design studio, from September 14th to November 23rd. We collaborated with Id-Lab for the Capodanno del Design event, the first grand event of Torino 2008 World Design Capital.
A spread medium of design themes.
Design leaves distribution during the New Year's Eve in Turin
It's very hard to precisely define what is the correct meaning of the word design.
Design leaves wants to question and give different literal and graphic answers.
Design leaves consists of print and distribution - preview during the Turin New Year's Eve, organised to celebrate Torino 2008 World Design Capital, and afterwards during the whole Design Year - of 10 different stickers to collect.
The stickers are characterised in the front pasty side by different green colours (green is the official colour of Torino 2008 World Design Capital) and definitions of design, tracing historical and theoretical evolution of a discipline that has reflected and reflects like no others all the social, economical, technological and political changes of contemporary society.
In the back side there are representations of everyday used objects, whose design for industrial production dates at the nineteenth century.
Whoever hasn't used a drawing pin or a paperclip? Whoever hasn't opened a crown cup bottle? Who would call these objects a design product?
Nevertheless they're so perfect and insuperable that they're still on sale.
Design leaves has an educational and popular goal: it doesn't shoot for teaching, but for making users wonder and be curious. Design leaves grows out of the collaboration between us and Chiara Comuzio, Theory and history of design teacher at the Polytechnic of Turin.
